Thoughtful post, and something I have long thought would happen. I have every faith King Charles will do the right thing based on his understanding of how things work, I would not dare suggest anything as I don't know the full workings within the Royal Family. I feel that the Dukedom will be removed too, as Queen Elizabeth herself said that there wasn't enough Dukedom to go around as there is too many of them. So I believe, or hope, that King Charles will ask for current Dukedom to die out with older members, but removed completely for younger members. That way the Dukedom will be reverted back into the Royal family for future use, especially for Prince Williams children and their children.
I agree, I think that's a very real possibility... after all, why does Archie in America need to be The Duke of Sussex when his father dies? Just because The King is not doing things on Twitter's schedule, doesn't mean he's not doing them! No one anticipated the Frogmore Cottage news, I think anything he announces will catch people off guard, they're running a tight ship.
Twitter and other social media platforms only raised my anger; when some things came out, the body language of William and Catherine and so much more, I cottoned on the fact that Twitter et al are just speculating on THEIR opinions. Once I started to read it as THEIR opinions, I quite enjoyed seeing people share what they thought, at the same time being detached from it as I trust the Royal family ARE doing something.
Thank you for your thoughtful post, so refreshing to read a rational and considered discussion of the possibilities. It feels virtually certain that change is coming. I suspect both princely titles and styles for non-working Royals will go, unless honorably retired. Thinking about timing, this feels like a reform for a Monarch's first year. Why wait longer than September?
Thank you for your kind words Emma! I think you make a great point, one year seems to be a good marker, reflecting the end of his first year as monarch, he's had time to assess all the situations he faces. I personally expect something over summer or early September - that's just my opinion.
Thanks for reading and commenting, great to have a Royal chat!
I am so pleased to have discovered your blog. You elevate the conversation above gossip to a mixture of facts and possibilities without any nastiness. So, again, thank you. When I looked at the front two rows at the Commonwealth ceremony on Monday, I was struck that it was so hugely symbolic and historic: with the King and Queen, Prince and Princess of Wales, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Tim Laurence, this is now the official face of the monarchy. Later that evening, they (yes the Princess of Wales wasn't there but since no official reason given, no comment from me) handled the diplomatic duties of a reception with grace and charm. It will be interesting if this IS indeed England's monarchy moving forward with the younger Wales taking on more roles as they grow older. More changes will need to be made as it's not possible for 8 to do the work that . . . what, 16? 18? used to do, but as the older Dukes and Duchesses are still doing some work, that may not change until they pass.
As for Prince Harry in the US, well, I am reminded of the lyrics to Natalie Cole's song "Someone That I Used to Love." He's someone that the RF will always choose to love, but perhaps when they meet him, it will be more a memory of someone that they used to love. That's my opinion as a constitutional monarchist by preference, fan of most Royal families, Harry is Royal by birth but not part of the future of the Royal Family by his choice. He has taken a different path. Whether Charles will do anything overt in terms of underlining that choice further does, as you say, remain to be seen.
Thank you for your very kind words! And thanks for adding to the chat with your great comment!
I think you make a fantastic point, and I often wonder are they all really grieving the Harry they used to know? Losing him from the firm was definitely a blow, as they assumed Harry and his future wife would be a part of the working team. That was clear with the balcony appearance in 2012, Charles was saying then, "here's the future family".
But it seems to me, if they're not working, and for others who are not, what's the point in having the title? And removing those titles would be no great loss or affect the working family. I sense change is coming but time will tell! Thanks again for reading!
